GWS series - Rod drive

The GWS Series is a compact yet powerful rod-driven sprocket, featuring a 60 mm wide polyurethane (PU) drive ring mounted on a reinforced steel base. Designed to combine strong driving performance with excellent rod protection, the GWS Series is ideal for applications where space is limited but reliability and product-friendliness remain essential.

Like the larger GW Series, the GWS drives directly into the rods of the web, not the rubber traction belt. This method ensures precise belt movement without slippage, especially when using webs with two belts and “top-flat” rod geometry. Its slightly narrower width compared to the GW Series allows it to be used in setups with tighter spatial constraints or narrower belt configurations.

The GWS Series sprockets are modular and splittable, meaning they can be mounted without dismantling the entire shaft setup. The PU gear ring is bolted onto a reinforced steel ring, which is then mounted on a detachable hub. In case of wear or pitch changes, only the PU gear ring needs to be replaced — the hub remains on the shaft, simplifying maintenance and reducing downtime.

Thanks to the flexible PU teeth, the GWS is gentler on rods than cast iron variants, helping to extend component life in demanding field conditions.

A narrower rod-driven solution for space-constrained applications without sacrificing durability:

  • Compact 60 mm PU drive ring for precise traction
  • Rod-friendly material minimizes wear and tear
  • Modular ring/hub setup for easy replacement
  • Splittable design simplifies installation

In rod-driven conveyor systems, sprockets engage with the rods rather than the traction belt. This ensures highly accurate, slip-free belt movement. Broekema’s PU-based rod drive solutions—such as the GWS Series—offer the additional advantage of being gentler on metal components, which helps reduce wear and extend service life.

The modular setup of the GWS makes it easy to adapt, service, or upgrade. For systems where space is limited or where narrower belt widths are used, the GWS offers an optimal combination of compactness, performance, and low maintenance. It is a dependable drive solution for both agricultural and industrial conveyors where uptime and equipment protection are key.
