GW series - Rod drive

The GW Series is a robust rod-driven sprocket system designed for demanding conveyor applications. It features an 80 mm wide polyurethane (PU) drive ring mounted on a reinforced steel core, ensuring secure traction and high durability. This wide contact surface provides excellent grip on the rods while minimizing wear—making the GW Series particularly suited for intensive agricultural or industrial use where reliability and product-friendliness are essential.

As with all Broekema rod-driven systems, the traction belt is not directly engaged—the sprocket teeth drive the rods, and the rods carry the belt. The sprockets in this series are splittable, allowing for easy installation around existing shafts without removing surrounding components.

The GW Series is modular in design. Its PU gear ring and steel reinforcement are mounted on a loose hub that can be customized with a bore and keyway, or supplied with a setscrew if needed. This modular approach offers easy replacement of the gear ring in the case of wear, pitch changes, or updates—while the hub remains mounted on the shaft.

Thanks to the resilient PU teeth and durable steel construction, the GW Series delivers smooth and belt-friendly performance over long periods, even under high stress and continuous operation.

In rod-driven systems, sprockets engage directly with the rods rather than the traction belt. This method provides positive, slip-free drive control, especially on two-belt webs with “top-flat” rods. Broekema offers multiple rod-drive options—cast iron or PU teeth—depending on your load and crop handling requirements. PU-based systems like the GW Series are especially recommended for more delicate products or extended operating hours, as they are gentler on components and reduce mechanical stress.
